This week is ‘Financial Planning Week,’ which is an annual initiative promoted by The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI) to raise awareness of the incredible value that professional financial planning brings to the lives of people.
Years ago, Paul Etheridge had a poster on the wall of his reception that explained what financial planning is by defining what it wasn’t.
I wish I’d taken a photo of it; it was well before smartphones and I wasn’t in the habit of taking my Kodak Polaroid camera around with me! I’ve still got it though ????
My concept of financial planning is that it helps people answer the five ‘Big Questions’ that are fundamental to everything that most want their lives to be:
How can I live a better life now whilst preparing for the future?
How can I deal with the unexpected?
How can I help and support the people I care about?
How can I help to look after people who cannot look after themselves and what about if it applies to me?
How can I leave a legacy?
As I see it, my role as a professional financial planner is to use my knowledge, skills and experience to help people find answers to those fundamental questions and then help them adopt a course of action throughout their lives that translates them into tangible benefits.
Financial planning is a noble profession and one that I am proud to belong to.
